TOWNHOUSE\/STUDY - DAY 1<br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>           -EARLY APRIL, 1841-<br \/>\n<\/b>           We are close on a PAIR OF BLACK HANDS as they open A<\/p>\n<p><b>           FINELY WRAPPED PACKET OF VIOLIN STRINGS.<br \/>\n<\/b><br \/>\nWE CUT TO the hands stringing a VIOLIN. It's not a high<br \/>\nend piece, but it is quite nice.<\/p>\n<p>WE CUT TO a wide shot of the study. Sitting in a chair<br \/>\nwith violin in hand is SOLOMON NORTHUP; a man in his late<br \/>\ntwenties. Everything about Solomon, his mien and manner,<br \/>\nis distinguished. But he, too, seems a hardy individual.<br \/>\nSomeone who has known manual labor in his time.<\/p>\n<p>Solomon begins to lightly play his violin, as if testing<br \/>\nthe strings, their tuning. Satisfied, Solomon begins to<br \/>\nplay vigorously. As he does, we make a HARD CUT TO:<\/p>\n<p><b>           INT.
