A MIDSUMMER DAWN. THORNFIELD - THE GROUNDS.<br \/>\n<\/b><br \/>\nFirst light. Jane Eyre is running across a meadow, flushed<br \/>\nand breathless; the hem of her plain, black dress soaked<br \/>\nwith dew. She carries a shawl and has a small bag of<br \/>\nbelongings over her shoulder.<\/p>\n<p>She trips, falls to her knees; looks back. Expressive eyes,<br \/>\nopen features. She is desperate. We see the house she is<br \/>\nrunning from; a Jacobean battlemented mansion.<\/p>\n<p>Her need to escape is so great that she crawls forward<br \/>\nuntil she is able to raise herself to her feet. She runs.<\/p>\n<p>She reaches an antique stile by a brook. She lifts herself<br \/>\non to it. She lands on the road. And runs.<\/p>\n<p><b>          I\/E. DAY.
